Very creative, Doug. Congratulations. I've been a fan of hi-fi amplifiers for a
while; a former boss wanted to speed up an AC driven turntable and I suggested
using an audio generator and hi-fi amp running into a control or filament
transformer backwards -- this is a really cheap way to get high-power, variable
frequency AC. In the event, he decided against it; he was afraid of burning out
the table motor, though I still think it was over-rated for the load we placed
on it.

We use a McIntosh MC2600 stereo/mono audio amplifier. It is 600w
stereo,
1000w mono and can be configured for output impedances of 16, 8, 4, 2 or
1 ohm.
We also use this amp for CS101. Although you could get by with about
200w, the
extra power is often helpful. Even though the amp is rated only to 20
kHz, it
has only a slight roll off at 100 kHz. And the Grateful Dead used 'em
for years
for concert amplification!
