Heber,

I had the same problem with fuses in one of my products. We shipped "American"
5x20 mm fuses and they did not blow. However, when replaced by a fuse bought
locally in the UK, they did blow prematurely. The only way we found around this
was to specify a replacement fuse supplied by our company or that matched the
specific manufacturer name and part number. We added a statement that said
"replacing the mains fuse with a fuse other than the ones listed below may
cause premature failure of the mains fuse" in our service notes.

Subject: How to specify IEC fuses
To: Post News

I want to specify in a user manual the use of IEC 127 fuses rather than
U.S./Canadian fuses, and need to find wording that is clear and concise,
especially to Americans. Suggestions please?

Since the fuse curves are significantly different, the use of the
American style fuse can lead to premature fuse opening.

The fuse I want:
5 x 20 mm F 1A 250V (Low or High break capacity) per IEC 127-2 sheet 1
or 2, typically SEMKO approved, UL and CSA recognized, such as
   Bussmann GDA or GDB
   Littelfuse 216
   Schurter SP or SFS

The fuse I DON'T want:
5 X 20 mm fast-blo 1A 250V per UL & CSA standards, Listed by UL and CSA,
such as
   Bussmann GMA
   Littelfuse 235

Anyone have any favorite wording?
