The best source of information is Raymond Communications. They publish
Recycling Laws International. That's where I found the icons. The
publication lists the legal requirements of each country.

We are presently in contact with our box suppliers too, but the answers are
pending. We are going to reply upon them to provide proof of compliance for
our files.

The laws are not being enforced because there are no standards, only drafts.
You can get those from BSI. If you are in the US, you can order them from
British American Chamber of Commerce at (415) 296-8645. I believe that they
are $35 each. Here are the BSI draft numbers:

        Subject: RE: Packaging Directive

        Good morning.

I've gotten to know much more than I ever wanted to about
the OJ and also about packaging and packaging waste. So far
I've located the relevant Directives (starting at 394L0062)
and associated amendments. I've also got the various codes
we are supposed to show on the packaging. What I can't find
is the graphic and the format we are supposed to use!

Do you have any information on this? I sure would appreciate
a download or a URL if you have a path to this information.

FWIW, I have also contacted the American Cardboard Council.
(And I thought WE were a splinter group!) The European
editor of their industry newsletter (a Mr. Higham) believes
that the requirements differ by country, and suggested a
consultant I could hire to find the answers. I am sure my
boss would just love to see a requisition for that!

I called a few cardboard box manufacturers, and none had
heard of any European requirements. The general opinion was
that nobody is going to worry about it until boxes start being
        bounced at Customs.

I don't consider either of the above as a good basis for
setting company policies and procedures. Do you have
        any suggestions?

        Thanks.
