There is a regulation covering Champagne labelling, but it limits the use of
the name Champagne to wine produced in the Champagne region of France (around
Reims/ Epernay). So the Czech stuff was not Champagne at all! (Neither is
Californian). Or is this an explosive issue too?

Perhaps the Europeans will soon draft a new directive
for the safety of these Champagne bottles, something
along the lines of the explosives atmospheres
directive.
I would very much like to be the test engineer, as we
could require sampling the product in bottles as part
of the laboratory testing.
