Richard, I am sure this does not need to be said but felt the need anyway.
Don't use a mesh with a hole size of less than 0.018"/dia. Use a solid sheet for better high frequency response, especially near the turntable. Kevin -----Original Message----- From: Steve Kuiper [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, July 28, 1999 4:18 PM To: EMC-PSTC Subject: NSA Richard, Might I suggest that you replace the old galvanized wire mesh with a #8 mesh /dia. size of no less that .018. Overlap the mesh for soldering. Etch the galv. with muriatic acid, using a natural bristle brush. Use a generous amount of acid and let stand for no less than 1 minute. Use pneumatic air compressor to clear away excess acid, do not use water! Apply solder to ground plane using heavy duty soldering gun. We use the American Beauty Number 3198 with a massive 550W. Call California Tool Co. for catalog. Use any kind of solder with this gun, pref. rosin or acid core. After soldering complete clean and re-coat mesh with galvanizing spray. WAH-LAA. Should be no more than a two hour job. Good luck at NSA, now I must get back to my own Ground Plane. Regards. Steve --------- This message is coming from the emc-pstc discussion list.
