The dc polarity symbol is specified in:

    Symbol 01060 (taken from JEIDA 11)
    EIAJ CP-1104 (1998)
    "Terms and Grpahical Symbols for Audio and Audio-Visual Equipment"
    Technical Standardization Committee on Audio-Visual Equipment and Systems
    Electronic Industries Association of Japan

This standard now specifies the mark using 
diamonds rather than circles to enclose the
+ and - signs.
