Koh,
I agree with George, the ventilation openings must be blocked in order to
comply with the testing requirements of the standard, but there may be a way
to perform the test and not totally block the openings.
Depending on the orientation of the openings, you might be able to add some
type of extrusion or stand-off(s) to the area of the openings. For example,
if the openings are on the side, the extrusion or stand-off(s) may prevent
the device from being pushed tightly against the wall when performing the
test which would allow for some ventilation of the device.
I hope this helps. Good Luck.

Koh,
Review the requirements for fault testing in either UL 6500, 2nd ed or
EN60065 6th ed (cls. 4.3.10). They state that "each group of ventilation
openings that are likely to be covered simultaneously, shall be covered in
turn and tested seperately".
" Ventilating openings that are likely to be covered simultaneously are:
- openings on top of the apparatus, for example by a newspaper; or
- openings on the sides and back, excluding the front, for example when
pushed into a hanging curtain".
Good Luck,
George

Subject: Logo for Ventilation Hole
Hi EMC-PSTC group,
A team within my company is currently designing a amplifier speaker
unit.
Due to the current drawn is high and heat are dissipated.
Therefore the encloseure need some ventilation hole.
Unfortunately, till the very late stage of the design cycle, they found
out if this ventilation hole was blocked, it will cause the plastic
enclosure to melt.
A question was asked,
Is there a safety label/logo that we can affixed onto the plastic
enclosure so that to tell user not to block this enclosure?
(Or not to place it in a area where the ventilation will be blocked.)
I've never seen such label or logo before.
Has anyone out there seen such type of label/logo?
Any advice from the group would be much appreciated.
Regards
Koh
