Paul, Bellcore GR-78-CORE has a maximum force requirement of 32 pounds. This is for insertion as well as removal. This is applicable to the insertion and removal of a cable connector as well. They state that the force is measured with new conforming parts that is an actual use situation.
This is applicable to telecommunications equipment and may not be applicable to your industry.
