Hi Alex,

Your colleagues in Germany are right. The e-mark procedure
tends to be quite involving. I think the problem is that
one cannot self certify for the e-mark. The testing and
certification has got to be done by a notified body and
they do the reporting and relevant 'filing' of your product's
e-mark with the vehicle authorities (e.g. VCA in the UK).

Subject:        The e Marking requirements

Hi Colleagues,

What are the marking requirements for a product (an ESA) that has met the
Automotive Directive, 95/54/EC, to be fitted in a vehicle? I always thought
that all that was required was the e mark. However, our colleagues in
Germany have came across several products that are marked similar to what I
have attached here:

example for the "e"- number :
e1 020148   (e1---> number of the country, 1=germany ;  02---> revision of
the EU-confirmation "95/54/EU" ;   0148---->  permit number

Is this type of marking required? Is it different per European Country i.e.
if it is 1 for Germany what are the numbers for all the other countries? Has
anyone got good information?

I look forward to your kind replies.

Kind Regards
Alex McNeil
