Bryan - I know this is nit picking, but Nomex is a brand of aramid paper (a nonwoven polyester) and is not vulcanized fiber.
I agree that it's an excellent insulating material, especially for high temperature applications, though pricier than other materials equally suited to Dave's particular application.
