This usually meant a gasket or spring fingers. I can't claim to have invented (maybe I did or GMTA) the stainless steel sub-panels many computers now use for that, but I do know that this was in the end considered a cost-effective way of resolving keyboard/mouse cable emissions from OEM mother boards.
