I read in !emc-pstc that Rich Nute <[email protected]> wrote (in <[email protected]>) about 'How do I do this test?' on Mon, 8 Dec 2003:
>Do you advise against the use of Class II construction for this reason? Class II is OK for TVs that have no connectors or only isolated connectors. It's not very advisable for hi-fi because most connectors are not isolated. But what it is really NOT to be used for is anything that has wiring installed in the walls and/or ceiling voids. This wiring is very vulnerable to accidental contact with mains wiring when the building is being altered, painted etc. For professional audio, it's common to design to Class II requirements and then add an earthed screen in the mains or SMPS isolating transformer, and a user option to connect signal common to the PEC or not. -- Regards, John Woodgate, OOO - Own Opinions Only. http://www.jmwa.demon.co.uk Interested in professional sound reinforcement and distribution?
