You are right the probe should be traceably calibrated using HV pulses of
known rise-time and application amplitude range. This is particularly true
for fast pulses (start of wave shape). In HV Engineering it is well known to
use capacitive/resistive dividers which are compensated. Linearity of
amplitude must also be checked!

This is just like special amplifier design where one optimizes pulse
response (e.g. overshoot) or frequency response.

Perhaps you can get a probe on lease to compare?

One source I know for these test probes is KeyTek near Boston (may be that
is what you have, are they correctly calibrated ?) or

Building very fast HV Pulsers and Probes...

I often use Tektronix P-6015 HV-Probe (x 1000 for Oscilloscopes- 1MOhm
input) with rise-times down to about 5ns and 20/40 KV peak.

May be Mike Howard of https://www.liberty-labs.com/ can calibrate such
probes, they do ESD. 

Most of these probes get calibrated with fast HV cable pulsers. Here the
cable length sets the pulse width.

We are using an HV differential voltage probe to measure the surge
waveform of our test generator.  (ringwave and combination wave).

Can anyone tell me where to obtain calibration of both rise-time and
amplitude accuracy.  The manufacturer calibrates the probe using a
150Vp-p 20kHz sine wave, but it occurs to us that the rise-time is
critical in order to accurately follow the fast wavefront of a surge
waveform.  (we're measuring ringwave voltage surges up to 6kV)
