Hi, Chris. Others have adequately addressed the EMC issues and EU directive perspective. CB Scheme Certificates are subject to possible rejection from an NCB, is it's three years or older, even if no changes were made to the product. Safety certificates I've obtained against EN standards from European NCBs cite specific standards' versions and dates. When the standards expired in relation to the applicable directive, the NCBs considered the certificates to also have expired. Russia GOST-R certificates are valid for three years. Assuming no changes in the applicable standards occurs China's CCC certificates expire annually and are reissued after resubmittal; typically accomplished by completing forms and remitting some fees. CSA and UL certifications are typically valid for the life of the product. When a standard is revised, these agencies have certification review processes in place where they work with companies to revalidated the certifications. If a product is unaffected by changes in applicable standards, certifications continue uninterrupted. As intimated by John W., the same caveat applies with regard to replacement or addition of safety effecting components as does for EMC. Regards, Peter L.
