I have already done that. Twice. Had the same problem on an earlier model, bought replacement batteries and did a remove and replace. It never worked after that. This time I was just going to remove the batteries, based on the replies to my original post.

It was indeed a pair of NiCd batteries. I am kind of like Mr. Borowski, I hate to throw something out that can be easily fixed. I am going to remove the batteries and continue to use the device as a mains-powered appliance. I have replaced the NiCad battery pair in my shaver a couple of times over the years. My Norelco uses two standard AA cells. It originally had solderable tab cells, but Radio Shack doesn't normally carry that style. But it's easy to solder on a jumper strap and create your own battery pack. This also gives you a good excuse to look inside the shaver; admit it, you really would like to do that!
