Most likely the razor uses ni-cad cells. One of their common failure modes
is a short circuit. With one of the cells shorted, the voltage across the
string of cells decreases, and often the charge current increases. The
increased current will cause the still good cell(s) to get warmer. Often
the charging circuit will also run warmer as well.

My guess is that probably one of the cells shorted. The increased charge
current then caused another cell to short. This likely made the charge
circuit especially unhappy, so it is all hot and bothered.

You have three choices - replace the cells, remove the cells, or replace
the razor. The last is the most often done. Here in the States, Consumers
Reports says that electric razors are replaced every 3 to 5 years. But then
again, my (mains powered only) electric razor is 35 years old. A new set of
(inexpensive) brushes for the motor every 10 years or so and it just keeps
on going. I just hate throwing something away that has only 1% of it worn
out.

This isn't a professional inquiry, but just curiosity. I have a
rechargeable
electric razor whose battery over a year ago failed to hold a charge. I
have
continued to use it as an ordinary mains-powered electric appliance, and I
leave it plugged in all the time. Lately it has begun to feel warmer than
it
used to.  Today the case was hot to the touch, and I disconnected it.  What
is happening to the battery?  Note it is getting hot when the unit is
turned
off - no load on the battery internal resistance.  It has to do with the
charging function, but the battery doesn't hold a charge.  The only reason
I
can use the unit at all is the power supply (built into the case) has
enough
ampacity to run the razor even with a dead battery. I don't recall the type
of battery, NiCd or lithium. Does it make a difference?
