No. The product must be certified. 2. Is there any other UL standards covering capacitors for ITE, audio/video, lighting equipment, such as IEC 60384-14 which covering higher voltage rating? UL 1283 covers line filters up to 600 V rms. Capacitors comprise components of line filters. So, you may be able to buy capacitors from a line filter manufacturer where the capacitor is a part of his certified line filter. 3. How does a product manufacturer determine capacitor ratings? Does it base on the product standard? If the dimmer module needs to comply with FCC conducted emission specs, then consider a line filter, not just capacitors. Buy the filter rated for the voltage. There are a large number of manufacturers of line filters certified to 1283. You can search the certifications part of the UL web site using the standard number to find the manufacturers. Good luck!
