The part that mates to the Rhodium pad is a gold plated socket. When the
socket wears it is rebuilt. It’s one of those $4000 Johnstech sockets. The
socket is good for about 100,000 insertions before it needs to be rebuilt.
I will look into the thermocouple formed by the rhodium. The IC tests are a
thermocouple nightmare anyway. The path from the IC innards is something like
aluminum, gold, nickel, tin, gold, nickel, berylium copper, nickel, gold,
rhodium, nickel, copper and so on.

David, obviously a contact is composed of two parts. Changing the PCB side
without changing the connector material can be a disaster. The softer side
will wear faster. Then there are possible thermocouple effects with dissimilar
materials that can interfere with your instrumentation.
