A brush discharge is not like that in appearance, it's a sort of 'glow', 
and it doesn't 'snap'. But what you describe doesn't sound like a 100 
kHz discharge, either. I wonder whether your generator is putting out DC 
as well as (or even instead of!) the 100 kHz.
