Jody, and everyone

I’m not sure to which page you are referring on the CENELEC website. When
you search for 61000-4-2 from the homepage, you are taken to a list which
includes EN 61000-4-2:1995 as the last item. When you click that hyperlink,
you are taken to a page that provides the details for the standard.
Unfortunately none of these pages has a unique URL so I cannot provide links
in this email.

The CENELEC webpages show references to directives for both harmonised
standards, and related standards such as basic EMC standards. Directive
89/336/EEC is referenced on that page as a hyperlink, and clicking on the
89/336/EEC link takes you to a page that shows the Official Journal status.
You will see that there is no OJ reference or OJ publication date associated
with EN 61000-4-2, and its status is shown as “REL” which stands for
“related”. Standards published in the OJ have “PUB” against OJ status.

I agree that this is not clearest indication, but at least those on this list
will now be aware how to find this information on the CENELEC website.

The clearest advice that I can offer, however, is that the European Commission
ultimately decides which standards are listed in the OJ, and it is therefore
better to use their website

ach/standardization/harmstds/reflist/emc.html>

to find the status of a standard with respect to the EMC Directive.

On that site there is an HTML list, and also a link to the pdf version of the
OJ page. The latter is definitive, and I would always recommend using this as
your source of information.

I hope this helps.

On a more general note, I heard this week that CENELEC has submitted a new
list of EMC standards to the Commission, for both 89/336/EEC and 2004/108/EC.
I expect that they will be published as two different lists, but I am not sure
when they will appear in the OJ. The 89/336/EEC list will be last published
under that directive because all new declarations of conformity from 20 July
this year must be to the new EMC Directive.

Best wishes

Subject: OJ and EN Standards

All,

EN 61000-4-2 does not appear to be in the standards list for the EMC
Directive. However, CENELEC's website indicates that it is in the OJ and even
provides dates. I was under the assumption that EN 61000-4-2 was not in the
OJ but referenced in a product specific immunity standard such as EN 55024 if
required.

Any ideas?
