The term "fixed installation" refers to the system being installed not the
dwelling that the system is being installed into.

"Fixed installation", is defined as "a particular combination of several
types of apparatus and , where applicable, other devices, which are
assembled, installed and intended to be used permanently at a predefined
location."

Brian, All,

If a person undertakes a hobby in electronics - say home automation -
building all the necessary controllers and interfaces, will they be
liable to keep the defined documentation?

If so - how is this one going to be promulgated, if not - what is the
difference between the domestic and the commercial / industrial
situation?

[devils advocate]

Ian, everyone

Not a DoC (no conformity assessment required), but as I said, good
engineering practices documentation for EMC-significant changes to
existing
installations, and all new fixed installations, from 20 July.

Houses are fixed installations (see May 2007 EC Guide, 1.3.1) but most
will
contain only compliant apparatus that is placed on the market. 4.2 of
the
EC Guide shows that for installations comprised solely of compliant
apparatus, the responsible person satisfies the documentation
requirements
by being able to provide, on request, the instructions for installation,
use
and maintenance provided by the supplier of each apparatus.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes

Brian

Brian
Does this mean that every factory in the UK should have a D of C?
What about houses? Are they fixed installations?
