Dear Richard,

Sorry for not replying to you earlier due to business trip. Thanks for your
useful advice.

Nowadays, as an importer/retailer, we have to look after lots of legal
requirements. However, LVD is still probably the highest priority than the
others. I believe imposing document review and/or some effective verification
is sensible if re-test is commercially and financially not possible. As you
mentioned, these requirements exist in the industrial for long. I would be
grateful if someone could share proved effective verification for this purpose.

Thanks and regards,

Scott

Subject: Re: Verification of LVD & EMC compliant reports

Scott,

Please remember which century you're in!

A few years ago 'all' that you needed to worry about is the things you've
mentioned: safety and EMC. Now however you also need to be concerned with
environmental matters too, such as RoHS, REACH and pretty soon EuP too. WEEE
remains the responsibility of the party that places the product on each
country's market, which sounds like you.

As to your question, you did not specify whether you are placing the products
on the market as an ostensive manufacturer (i.e. branded as though you had
made it) or simply the importer: the requirements differ somewhat. The safety
requirements also vary depending whether the item is purely buisness to
buisness use, or could end up in someone's home.

Bottom line is that if you appear to be the manufacturer or if you are the
producer under the GPSD (i.e. the product is not guaranteed to be purely B2B)
then the liability for each and every product you place on the market is
yours. Different companies will assess that risk differently and come to
different conclusions: often large multinationals with reputations and brands
to protect are more risk adverse than small start-ups. Part of your risk
assessment should include how well you know the company you are purchasing
>from and what reputation they have to protect, only you know such things.

Regards,

Richard
