The peak of the modulation envelope increases to one  plus the modulation
index:

Amplitude (t) = Ao * (1 + m) * sin (wt)

where Ao is the unmodulated amplitude and m is the modulation index (0.8 in
the cited example).

I¹ve been informed that a 20V/m field when modulated to depth of 80% produces
a 36V/m field strength.  Would someone explain how that works.  I¹m puzzled.
