The CISPR22 requirement regarding the extension cable has always puzzled me. When you have a 2 meter EUT power cord that is bundled, what difference does a few inches or even a foot of cordage off the LISN with a receptacle matter? I guess it would stop people from locating the LISN far from the EUT and connecting it with a real long extension cable. Mounting the LISN on the underside of the turntable seems like a good idea and it makes me wonder about other applications. 1. can you mount CDNs on the underside of a table top ground reference plane? 2. can you mount a fast transient burst generator on the underside of a table top ground reference plane.? Will they work the same? Is there any test equipment manufacturer who sell a LISN designed to be mounted on the underside of a turntable? The Other Brian

The 18" is probably not enough for that. This is because if you follow the CISPR 22 standard, the impedance of AMN must be verified with any extension cable used and this may be difficult near 30 MHz. The 80 cm would not be a problem with CISPR 22 since this is measured to the extra socket attached to LISN which is flush with ground plane. If you can make a small hole to the ground plane so that you can plug the EUT to the LISN immediately under the ground plane (with no extension cable), you would be also fine with CISPR 22 since the 80 cm is measured to the ground plane in this case. Note that the hole needs a cover plate for radiated test.
