Hello All,
I just became aware of a (supposedly) new US federal requirement for "External
Power Supplies" (EPS) that goes into force in July 2008 mandating minimum
energy efficiency compliance.

The website listed as "Energy Star Program Requirements for Single Voltage
External Ac-Dc and AC-AC Power Supplies, Version -2" (
<file://www.energystar.gov/ia/partners/
rod_development/revisions/downloads/eps_prog_reqs_d1v2.pdf>
www.energystar.gov/ia/partners/prod_dev
lopment/revisions/downloads/eps_prog_reqs_d1v2.pdf) is no longer valid, and
there are no apparent links to any "government Site". This listed Energy Star
website appears to be totally voluntarily and not a federal requirement.

Question: Does anyone know the actual date of the publication of this law in
the Federal Register, the scope of Actual Law as passed, and the real
requirements of the law ???

I have not been able to locate the actual law and determine it's specific
requirements or applicability to what classes of devices it is applied to
(i.e.: consumer only - or does it apply to laboratory and industrial equipment
also)

A Google search turned up about 200K items but no actual reference to a real
law.

Does anyone out there know if this is real or another bogus Blog by EDN.
All responses are gratefully acknowledged in advance.

Best regards to all.
