Ed,
It is common practice among automotive 
enthusiasts (car nuts) to place sheets of cardboard 
underneath cars stored for a long time in garages 
to absorb moisture vapors coming up through 
concrete floors. The cardboard is replaced 
periodically with fresh sheets.
