Restrictive provisions that were justified when they were put in stay in standards until someone proposes to delete or modify them in the light of improvements in device performance. That's what you are now doing. You might look at IEC 60934:2007 to see what it says about durability and reliability. I doubt that you would get very far with an approach through your national committee to IEC TC108 to amend IEC 60950-1 at this time, because it is pre-occupied with IEC 62368, but you might try, through you national committee, to get IEC SC22E, responsible for IEC 60934, to make a formal approach to TC108 if you can make a case for the provision to be reviewed. At the same time, you could raise the matter as a comment on the corresponding provision in IEC 62368. It's in Annex S of 108/276/CDV. -- OOO - Own Opinions Only.
