Would it make sense to see if the end product can pass safety with the non-LPS power supply? Probably not. A major requirement (with a major expense) is that your end-product enclosure will need to meet the requirements for a fire enclosure. If the end-product enclosure is plastic, then it will need to be changed to a V-1 material or better, which is about twice the cost of HB material. Is the the LPS clause just a CB scheme requirement or is it required for NRTL approval also? LPS is required by the IEC 60950-1 standard and all its clones, including clones used by NRTLs (e.g., ANSI/CSA/UL 60950-1). So, yes, LPS is required for the CB scheme and for NRTL certifications. By the way, I presume you have checked your end-product certification report and verified that the end-product requires an LPS power supply?
