Brian,

I do prescreening for FCC here in my lab @ Vicon Industries Inc.
I have a GTEM Cell and use TILE software.
to do Conducted and Radiated Emissions.

Our product line is made up of unintentional radiators and is primary
CCTV and ITE equipment.
The answer that you will get from most in terms of overall numbers I
would think would be
product dependent.

As you know different products will use different tests to meet the FCC
,CE standard or IEC standards.

The outside lab that I use to verify FCC pretty much has kept the cost
the flat.
Other then the requirement by the FCC to extend Radiate E testing out
to the fifth harmonic of the fastest clk in the product which lead to a
charge for additional man hours and hence the increase in cost.

Best Regards,

FWIW, there are several articles on wikipedia.org that talk about the
history of 120V vs 240V mains power. Most point to similar reasons - the
compromises that Tesla had to make to get a win over Edison, etc.

Hi Ralph:

Is it common throughout Europe to distribute 3-phase power to
single-family homes?

Well, yes. I'm not sure of England.

If so, why are single-family and duplex residences in North America
supplied with 120/240V single-phase?

I'm sorry, but I can't answer the question.

Best regards,
Rich
