In Europe the three phase supply is not normally supplied to residences. Three phase is only typically only used by industry.
Three phase may also be used to feed a street of houses and the phases split to give single phase 230V to individual houses. That is evident when a phase goes down, some houses have power while others do not. What is the main reason to have different type of power supply instead of unique one in one country? Your advice is appreciated. In Norway, no PE is provided in house wiring. However, very recently, PE is provided in new construction. In Sweden, the PE is provided. In most of Europe, the service to a residence is 3-phase Y, 400 V, 50 Hz. Each phase of the 3-phase is distributed within the house as single-phase (230 V, 16 A) to appliances and socket-outlets. Where higher power is required, 3-phase is distributed to that appliance.
