Kim,

The UL standard for battery packs is UL 2054. If you will be seeking UL
approval to UL 60601-1 they may require the pack to meet UL 2054 or include
those tests in the UL 60601-1 evaluation. For UL 2054, the pack charge and
discharge will be evaluated at worst case currents with single faults on any
components that do not possess UL Recognition.

Overcharge testing will also be conducted.

You should definitely find out if the UL 2054 tests will be required ahead of
time.

Best Regards,

        Subject: Li-Po battery and UL/EN 60601-1

        Hi all

We have a medico product with a Li-Po battery back. The pack have UR
approval, but this is only for the cell not including the protection/charging
circuit integrated in the cell.

The solution is to integrate a simple protection circuit in the main
product.
This could be done by a Zener diode between poles and a PTC in the positive
pole + a normal Li-Po charging controller (+ diode in charger connector for
external charger PSU for reveres polarity.)

Is there a UL standard for Li-Po safety or is there any UL design
requirements for such a protection (eg. Double the PTC and Zener diodes)

        Best regards,
