In selecting your isolation transformer, one thing to watch out for is that many "isolation transformers" actually carry the ground path all the way through. 

I learned this several years ago when I bought a pair of Tripp-Lite isolation transformers for use in my lab.  I had to re-wire them to obtain the galvanic isolation that I was seeking. 

My impression is that many of the "isolation" transformers that are available on the market are intended for *noise* isolation, not *safety* isolation.  The distinction is not always clear in the product literature.
