The noise we see from our metal halide lights are sporadic. It might be fine
for many days or weeks but then give us fits on one particular day. We had our
light circuit broke out so we can turn off the 6 fixtures nearest the antenna
leaving on the two on the far end near the EUT. This helps but still on
occasion gives us trouble if we are looking below the Class B limit. Then, like
you, we are working in the dark. And of course, like during the Super Bowl last
night, it takes 20 minutes for the lights to come back on.

My gut tells me the complexity of going LED will cause us more problems than it
will solve, but at the same time we are always looking for better technologies.

Brian from a cheapy standpoint - we only leave the lights on when
troubleshooting in the room and then I'm looking at some pretty specific stuff.
I know our lights have noise but I know what it looks like. When I'm doing any
sort of overall product measurement I simply turn off the lights and close the
door.
So much for stating the obvious.

I saw an amazing display of LED shield room lightning. The LEDs (and more
importantly) all the wiring, are totally outside the chamber. A light pipe
penetrates the chamber ceiling at regular intervals through a stuffing tube
(waveguide beyond cut off).

It should be noted that this chamber has white absorber; this would not have
worked with black ferrite tile or blue cones. At least it would have taken many
more luminaries.
