I've been to the Benefield Anechoic Facility (BAF) at Edwards AFB.
It's probably the world's largest EMI test site - massively BIG!
It takes an extremely long time just to open & close the door!
Google "Benefield Anechoic Facility" for those interested.

Just some interesting info.

I'm assuming that you are thinking in the 3-meter or 10-meter semi-anechoic RF
shielded chamber mindset. However, there are no limits if you have deep enough
pockets. Sony built a 5-story tall shielded enclosure in San Diego; I'm not
certain of the exact construction, but it is essentially a big shielded room
that serves as its own weather shelter. Getting more extreme, I built a
4-story, 40k square foot shielded building (welded steel) for the Navy in San
Diego about 40 years ago. (Let's not talk about what happens to shielded door
seams when the surf is 200 feet away.) At the extreme, you have the USAF's
Benefield Chamber at Palmdale, which is about 275' x 275' x 75' tall.

So, it can be done, if you have Sony or Uncle Sam level money.

Subject: [PSES] Standalone EMC Chamber?

Hello group,

A colleague of mine mentioned that he had seen a "stand-alone" EMI chamber at a
test lab. One of the obstacles we have in getting a chamber is the lack of
space in our building and he thought this may be a good solution to our dilemma.

I am not aware of any chambers that do not require a parent structure.

Are any of you aware of any EMC chambers [3 or 10m - preferably 10m] that do
not require a parent building and operate "stand-alone"?

Best regards,

Mac Elliott
