Many of the more modern analyzers provide a back-panel video output; you can
often connect a cheap LCD display to that port and get a great improvement
over the aging built-in CRT display.

Subject: Re: [PSES] Test equipment

Hi,

I too am the recent proud owner of an HP8753B Network Analyser; a
mind-blowingly clever piece of equipment. Recommended for its Educational
and practical value!.

As received, the fan ran - but was very noisy. I replaced the fan with an
EBM-Papst 4414M, which was slightly quieter - but not as much improvement as
I had hoped.

The CRT screen display was a bit dim, but I achieved a surprising and very
useful improvement by following the procedure for re-centering the screen
display. This brought new areas of phosphor into use for the graticule and
all the screen data. Much easier to read now.

My remaining problem is intermittant uncertain contact closure of the
various push-buttons - -presumably dirt or weak springs. If anyone knows
how to remedy or get replacements please advise!
