Dan, South Africa uses the old British Empire plug that is also used in India. When we were there in 2005 for the CISPR meetings that was the only socket I saw. Granted, that was 9 years ago, but I doubt the country has made a major change in that time.

I have been looking through SANS 164 described plugs and it appears that SANS 164-2 Sheet 2-7 describes the Europlug mechanically, though not by direct reference to CEE 7/16.. Does anyone know if a class II household appliance with a Europlug is acceptable to NRCS in South Africa? Are outlets commonly available in homes? Is power cord wiring and ENEC on the plug accepted? The SANS 164-1 plug is probably the one in widespread use but I am trying to avoid a new plug configuration if possible. Regards, -- Dan Roman, N.C.E.
