The Live CD is as the name says a CD that is able to run without changes to your system. If you do want to install to HDD, then you either have a choice of overwriting an existing linux install, use an empty partition, or overwrite a full disk (if you have windows on it, you probably want to make some room first, and leave the space unpartitioned).
