Yes Sven you are dead right, the mistake I was making was trying to do it 
using Nero SmartStart which would have been alright if I had closed the 
window that appears and gone straight to Recorder then Burn Image. However I 
did persivere and eventually work it out. I have now had Ubuntu+EMC2 
installed on my PC for a couple of days and all is working well. However the 
configuration procedure for a specific machine seems rather more complex 
than it is for TurboCNC. I am using the Xylotex driver board  on a bench 
mill, I found the Xylotex configuration in the samples but can't seem to get 
it to run it always seems to load with the standard pin outs I did try 
removing these files and just leaving the Xylotex and metric files in the 
folder but this did'nt work either. Any help from you guy's would be very 
welcome.
