OK, yes, if there is no (or not yet) RT extension for Ubuntu / OS X on a
power PC then that is clearly out.

I will look up this gateway machine - for 150 that may be a good option...

The Gateway Profile 3 is essentially a laptop with a separate
keyboard.  It has an external power supply pod, like most
laptops.  They are now selling on eBay around $150.  Watch out
for damaged screens.  There is a "magic touch" touch screen unit
that can be fitted to the front of the PC.  It doesn't work well
with the Axis GUI of EMC2 due to the small icon/button size, but
can be used with the TKEMC GUI quite well.  This touch screen is
very solid, and can act a s a screen protector for the computer.

I have verified that it runs quite well with EMC2, rtai, and
Ubuntu, and has no problems with real-time response fluctuations.
