Presently, stepconf only considers step rate when choosing BASE_PERIOD. Ideally, PWM output and spindle encoder input would also figure into the calculation. I'm happy to take a look at patches intended to improve this. Look for 'def ideal_period' in stepconf.py for the place to add these calculations.
