Gentlemen, The first thing I would do is open a terminal and start top. Then I would shut down EMC and watch the load and cpu usage and memory usage. On my box I saw xorg was using 98% of the CPU. I increased video memory to 128 mb and the usage went down to 70%. I increased the video memory to 256 mb and the usage went down to 12%. This was on Ubuntu. It may not help you.
