Since you haven't addressed John's question about whether in view or machining - I'll tag on about the PyVCP - If you are expecting a panel to appear because you clicked the include custom PyVCP button in stepconf you won't - it simply includes a blank file that is already tied into the GUI for you to add you custom PyVCP xml code to. That might be something to add to the Stepconf interface to assist the noob's understand what it is really doing. I will admit, I was expecting some blank panel to appear when I first opened Axis - even with reading the manual - but then saw all the code examples on the wiki and elsewhere. :)
