We clamped the tap in a standard ER25 collet, no axial freedom (it's called _rigid_ tapping after all...). We had the g33.1 move start with the tip of the tap around 5mm above the hole so the spindle and Z would have time to accelerate to cruise speed before hitting the hole. Our threads appear OK, perhaps somewhat loose, but that may be because the drill makes a slightly oversize hole.
