Absolutely, they are in the business of making money, building machine controllers is a by product. If they can advertise a "feature" that can make machining "easier", they'll do in a flash, regardless that it compromises the essence of g-code. To me, g-code should describe one and only one unambiguous surface set. > I feel EMC should be compatable with Fanuc.I feel this > way because EMC is already better than most other > software out there, and you need something to use as > a rule of thumb. ... snip I would tolerate the idea of an EMC2 compatibility switch. If you want Fanuc behavior fine, if you want true surface behavior, that's better. This does add complexity though. I started out as a drafter, then designer, and machinist. My drawings, most times, went to contractors, if there were any ambiguities, they would eventually come back to haunt me and hurt my reputation. G-code is just another form of a drawing, and is a step along the way to a final product. Inevitably, compromises are made, corners cut, at each step. In order to keep the resulting product as true to design as possible, the design, and the communication of that design has to be as complete and unambiguous as possible. If flaws turn up, they need to go back to the source and be corrected. -- Kirk Wallace (California, USA http://www.wallacecompany.com/machine_shop/ Hardinge HNC/EMC CNC lathe, Bridgeport mill conversion, doing XY now, Zubal lathe conversion pending Craftsman AA 109 restoration Shizuoka ST-N/EMC CNC) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ _______________________________________________ Emc-users mailing list Emc-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users
