When I ran an Okuma lathe at work, they didn't use the machine's cutter comp
(they were closed minded- didn't want to learn anything new) if you didn't have
the same radius tool as when Smartcam was run the tapers would be wrong. It
was a big pain (mostly to remember to check!) as we did short runs. If they had
used Okuma's comp then as long as the radius of the tool was not bigger then
the smallest radius on the part, all was good - I can't remember if the control
errorred or if you got a bigger radius than programmed in this case. I can't
comment on milling but for lathe work I would want EMC to work as Okuma did,
comp should use the radius of the current tool. My 2 cents worth :)
