The okuma lathe I used had a g code to switch to mirror image.
After that, the spindle direction was inversed,
x direction was inversed and 
very importantly a different cordinate system was used.
There also was a manual button that you could use to
switch mirror image on and off during MDI.
we would pick 'front turret', set a reference tool then reference
all the front tools to it. then switch to 'back turret' set a different
reference tool and reference all the back tools to it. If you switched the
mirror image button from front turret to back turret the display would
change to reflect the two different reference tools. The only thing I
think would be better is if the mirror image would automatically change
when you index a tool from a different turret. This would also mean that
if the spindle was running it would have to stop and reverse direction.
The cordinate change is important and should be easy to impliment-
for instance in lathe mode g54 could be for front turret g55 for rear or
a new cordinate system could be added just for the rear turret.
