I've got a small problem that I'm hoping you all can help me with. I have a dedicated computer in my shop running the RTAI kernel with EMC2, supporting a home-built 3-axis machine with steppers. That configuration runs great!! I just updated it to 2.2.8 last nite and everything appears fine - at least in simulation mode - haven't tried cutting yet. The only difference I've noticed to this point is that semicolons are no longer recognized as the start of a comment, so I had to go back and edit my test files to use parentheses (or did I mess something up?).
I've also installed a version of EMC2 (Pre-2.3?) on my normal computer for simulation purposes only. This allows me to develop the part, turn it into gcode, and simulate it on EMC2 before heading to the shop - a real advantage!! Now, here's the rub: I made the mistake of trying to upgrade my simulation only package to 2.2.8 in order to maintain compatibility by running the script found on the EMC2 homepage. Well, it DID create an updated version, BUT it's not just simulation and it won't run without me booting the rtai kernel, even though I don't need it for simulation. I don't really want to do that. Is there ANY way to tell the precompiled EMC2 to run in simulation mode? Or is my only choice to recompile EMC2 with the simulation flags set? Obviously, I'd dearly like to tell the existing copy to run in simulation mode without the rtai kernel running because that way I don't have to recompile every time I want to update my EMC2 simulator - and I'd be notified automatically via the synaptic package manager about any updates. I'd greatly appreciate any advise you all might give - I don't want to get myself in any deeper than I can back out of!! THANKS!
