It is ABSOLUTELY possible for stepper motors to run backwards if the 
accel is set too high, or if there is a resonance problem.
If you set accel very low, and do a jog, it will ramp the speed up very 
slowly.  Listen to the motor.  If it makes a rattle at a specific speed, 
that is resonance.  If you are not using a microstepping drive, then I 
have a STRONG feeling this could be a resonance problem.
