If you want to find interference in tight fits like tapers, that will 
probably work, but it is no good for
wide, flat surfaces, as the PSI is extremely low.  If you apply any 
force, even the weight of the straightedge,
it will force the straightedge down onto the surface being tested, and 
so you will get a wrong impression that
the surfaces are both flat.
