Nice looking machine Chris! Do you have any other pics of it?. The Haas machine with side tool changers work exactly like you describe, you look at what pocket# the tool is in that you want and then go to a settings screen to find the actual tool number

I just converted a little VMC a lot like it. Coincidentally it also originally had a Yasnac control. Unfortunately I had to deal with a lot of defective parts that came on the machine. I added support to the development version of EMC2 for tool changers like this one that can only swap the spindle tool with a carousel pocket (i.e. they can't put the old tool back in the pocket it came from.)
